The Reference

The Reference was founded in 1993 and was the first web agency to appear on the Belgian market. Today, it works with 50 multidisciplinary experts who mainly work for large accounts.

The philosophy of The Reference can be summarised by this adage: “It’s not a website, it’s your business”. In other words: whereas the web was once a one-off project that ended when the site was put online, it now constitutes an integral part of the company activity. This means that the concept and deployment of a site has consequences throughout the company, its departments and its values. During the phase of strategic analysis, The Reference determines how the Internet can help the company to meet its objectives. The agency has developed its own method, called SAFIRA (Strategic and Functional Internet Road Map Analysis) that translates the objectives into Key Performance Indicators. During the next step, a team of specialists (graphic designers, developers, ergonomy experts, SEO experts) execute the project and turn the vision that was developed in collaboration with the client into a precise project. The Reference’s modus operandi is further inspired by the return on investment for the clients. The team constantly analyses the performance of a site, in terms of KPI, number of visitors (Web Analytics), the conversion rates from visitor to client, … in order to become ever more ambitious.
