Unlocking potential through education
Education Above All (EAA) was founded in 2012 by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. Its aim is to contribute to human, social and economic development through the provision of quality education. With a particular focus on those affected by poverty, conflict and disaster, it champions the needs of children, youth and women.
Opening a world of education to 57+ million children
Emakina was tasked with developing a cutting edge web presence for this important global initiative, which would highlight the challenges faced, raise the profile of the organisation and feature its life-changing work.
The challenge
How do you stand out from the mass of monotonous NGO websites, known for their information overload? Emakina was tasked with creating a fresh web presence for Education Above All (EAA), from a digital representation of the brand, to bringing life and attention to the full scope of its mission and activities.
Our solution
To stand out from the competition, we created high-impact, super-visual communications, while still managing to include all relevant content. With a strong focus on usability, smart transitions and call-to-actions, we created a smooth and cinematic online experience. An effortless, single scrolling page combines emotionally charged full screen images and video with punchy copy. A user-friendly horizontal navigation – smart and uncluttered – allows users to find information easily.
The technical approach is a blend of creativity and advanced technology. Sleek transitions support the user while navigating, and discrete labels beside the hide-able main navigation signpost the user's location in the site. All of this is made possible by Angular JS and Symfony 2.4, HTML5 and CSS3.
The core of the EAA activities is its three programmes, presented with poignant full-screen films, and supplemented with interesting information and related websites. The site design and architecture naturally lead users to this content, with striking images and videos that get to the heart of EAA.
Results
Our team worked closely with the Foundation and was in charge of the planning, information architecture, strategy and copywriting, functional and technical analysis, HTML programming and scripting, integration, testing and fine-tuning. From start to finish, the project was completed in just 2.5 months.
Available in both English and Arabic, the site is well-adapted to both Western and Middle Eastern audiences. Cleverly, to retain the logic of the horizontal scroll, the entire site is recreated in a mirrored version for a right-left reading audience. The result is a fully responsive futureproof site that allows for adaptations of both design and functionality to suit different devices.
